The Good Vibrations All Abilities Disco, held on 14 September in Doncaster, was a vibrant and inclusive event for people of all abilities. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Manningham City, the footy-themed disco encouraged participants to dress as their favourite footy heroes, creating a lively and fun atmosphere. DJ Angelo kept the energy high with his music, as Tende Back Scout Hall was transformed with decorations and lights to match the theme.
At just $5 a ticket, attendees enjoyed not only the music and dancing but also a drink and snack, making it an affordable and accessible night for everyone. The event was designed to create a safe and inclusive space where people with special needs could express themselves freely and connect with others. Carers accompanied participants, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and supported throughout the night.
Gail Dick, a community worker and advocate for people with disabilities, highlighted the significance of such events for participants’ social well-being. “It helps them feel part of the community,” she said. Thomas Dimitroff, one of the attendees, shared how the event allowed him to feel safe from judgement, describing it as a place where he could truly be himself. His mother, Liang Dimitroff, echoed this, saying, “Manningham is a small world, and our group is like a family.” She emphasised the importance of these community-driven events in fostering connections and a sense of belonging.
As the event continues to grow in popularity, it has become a beloved part of the local community, showcasing highlighting the power of inclusion and the joy it brings to those involved.
