In the early hours of the morning at 3:37am, two thugs were caught on CCTV footage after residents in Cottesloe Court, Doncaster East witnessed the thieves checking for unlocked cars parked outside the homes and in driveways.
One of the offenders was seen carrying a petrol jerry can.
Police were called to the scene and the incident is under further investigation.
This serves as a reminder to ensure that all vehicles are locked to help prevent car theft from occurring.
